Strength is not based on physical capacity, but on an indomitable will. Training is not easy, if it was everyone would do it.
Through martial arts, we gain the strength of body, mind and spirit to realize our potential and live our dreams.
One can learn to strike efficiently in a matter of months, but there is no shortcut to the overwhelming benefits that come from pursuing a martial arts program rooted in traditional karate.
The belt system was designed by the founders of Judo and Shotokan karate to help expand the ability to teach their arts.
Attaching a belt to each rank is a quick visual identifier for teachers (and other students) to be aware of each other’s skill and progress. It gives students goals and focuses them on the curriculum for each rank.
A black belt is a symbol, a tangible artifact of your dedication, sacrifice and achievement. It reminds you of your journey and acts as a visual credential for others. It can also help to keep the jacket of your gi closed while training.
A black belt is only as credible as the person wearing it and the teacher that awarded it. The martial arts world is filled with inadequate teachers and McDojo belts. If you want to buy a black belt, it only costs about $12 at most martial arts suppliers. Earning it is another matter altogether.
Cross-training is the future of martial arts. The base style of this program is Tang Soo Do (a Korean evolution of Shotokan karate). Sensei Jordan integrates the techniques and strategy from western boxing and Muay Thai kickboxing into the curriculum to offer a well-rounded striking system.
This program was developed to satisfy the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the modern martial artist. The training is firmly rooted in traditional martial arts, but informed by modern science and fight strategy.
You must begin in our Drop-In Kickboxing classes. Once you learn the basics and earn your green belt, you will be invited to participate in the Black Belt Program classes. Candidates for the Black Belt Program display the following qualities:
Seattle has a number of great MMA gyms but they are not for everyone. Sensei Jordan envisioned Fighting Chance Seattle as a true school of the martial arts. No one here is in it just for themselves. A true school is a community of people who support, challenge and inspire one another.
Fighting Chance Seattle also offers more of a mental and spiritual component than mixed-martial arts gyms. We still practice kata and various breathing and meditation drills to train every aspect of a person, not just their ability to pummel an opponent.
As a student of the Black Belt program, you become a part of this school, not merely a customer. In this program you will receive a $5 discount on your monthly tuition every time you earn a new rank. Your dedication to yourself and to the school is rewarded with a continually lowered tuition.
* Caution: Earning your black belt may involve hard work, commitment, dedication, sweat and personal growth.
